Although Town of Brampton ON does have much of a dramatic past like most other Canadian cities in the greater Toronto area, it has its moments. The city was once the largest flower producer in the country and still upholds this legacy despite having evolved into one of the most contemporary cities in the nation.  Brampton, ON also boasts of being home to some of Canada’s most famous people since its inception. Below is a list of some of the famous people from Brampton city or as the locals would say, famous Bramptonians:

Shawn Robert Ashmore

Robert is a famous Canadian actor who gained a lot of popularity for his roles in major films including X-Men film series, The Following, Animorphs, The Ruins, and Conviction among others. He is also the lead character in the famous Quantum Break video game. Although Robert was born in British Columbia, his childhood and young adulthood time was spent in the beautiful city of Brampton, ON. Robert is the identical twin brother of fellow Canadian actor Aaron Ashmore.

Russell Peters

There are very few comedy lovers who have not heard about the comedy genius that is Russell Peters. Born Russell Dominic Peters, Russell is one of the most loved stand-up comedians in both Canada and the world at large. Russell was born in Toronto but grew up in the neighboring city of Brampton before moving back to Toronto at the start of his career in the late 80s. Russell has won many coveted awards in the comedy industry including the 2008 Gemini Award, an International Emmy Award and the Peabody Award. Forbes’ ranked Russell as one of the top three highest-paid comedians in the world. He has also featured in over 20 films throughout his life. Though he currently resides in Los Angeles, Russell Peters is one of the most celebrated sons of Brampton.

 Alessia Cara

Born Alessia Caracciolo in the Canadian city of Brampton, Cara is a young musical sensation in Canada and the United States who rose from doing theatre and writing childhood poetry to become one of the most popular music stars in the world. She released here debut hit song “here” in 2014, a track that rose to the 19th position in the Canadian 100 chart and was categorized as a sleeper hit in the U.S. where it ranked 5th in the famous Billboard Hot 100.
